Frequently Asked Questions
- What is MyFirstWebsite?
- MyFirstWebsite is a free service that lets anyone build a website using only a web browser. You don't need to know HTML or buy any software, and we host your site for you.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Free sites get up to 25 pages, 250 MB of storage, photo albums, a blog, a guestbook and a free address. If you want more, see our Pro and Business plans.
- Will there be ads on my site?
- No. We don't put banner ads or pop-ups on members' sites. Free sites show a small "Made with MyFirstWebsite" footer at the bottom of each page.
- What will my web address be?
- Free sites get an address like yourname.myfirstwebsite.dev. Pro and Business members can use their own domain name, like www.yourname.com.
- Do I need to download anything?
- No. Everything happens in your web browser. We support Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox 2 and 3, and Safari 3.
- Can I use my own HTML?
- Yes. Drag an HTML element onto your page and paste in any code, like a YouTube video, a PayPal button or a hit counter.
- Who can see my website?
- Anyone on the Internet. If you'd like some pages to be private, Pro and Business members can password-protect them.
- Why don't comments on my site appear right away?
- On free sites, all comments and guestbook entries are reviewed by our moderation team before they appear. This keeps spam and abuse off our members' sites. Learn more about comment moderation.
- Can I turn off comments?
- Yes. Open the Settings tab in the editor and uncheck "Allow comments". You can do this for the whole site or for one page.
- Someone made a website about me. What can I do?
- If a site breaks our Community Guidelines, for example by sharing your private information or threatening you, please report it. Our Trust & Safety team reviews every report.
- How do I delete my website?
- Log in, go to Settings, and click "Delete this site" at the bottom of the page. This can't be undone.
- Why can't I sign up or log in right now?
- We're moving to new servers. Sign-ups and log-ins are paused until the move is done. See the status page.
