Using your own domain name

Help Center article · Updated January 15, 2008

With a Pro or Business plan, your site can use your own address, like www.smithbakery.com, instead of smithbakery.myfirstwebsite.dev.

If you don't have a domain yet

Business plans include a free domain name for the first year. Pro members can register one through us for $9.95 per year. Go to Settings » Domain and search for the name you want.

If you already own a domain

  1. In the editor, go to Settings » Domain and choose I already own this domain.
  2. Log in to the company where you registered your domain (your registrar).
  3. Change the CNAME record for www to point to sites.myfirstwebsite.dev.
  4. Come back to the editor and click Check my settings.

Changes to domain settings can take up to 48 hours to work everywhere on the Internet.

During the server upgrade

Domain changes can't be made until the editor is back online. Domains that are already connected keep working.
